Yes, I woke up cranky this morning, the snow has piled up in my front yard so high that I can hardly make out the ground level of my house as I drive up. I am worried about ice dams and roof-collapsing … but REALLY? ... these are lame concerns and I need to change my perspective …
… I received this this note this morning from the oncology office manager at Beth Israel which has me looking at the snow with gratitude … my thoughts and prayers have been redirected … Hi, I just wanted to thank you very, very much for the box of hats. Our cancer patients love them, and with the cold winter we have been having, they are helping to keep them warm. We here at Beth Israel Deaconess Bone Marrow Transplant unit thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Sincerely, Kelly A. Practice Manager Hem/Malignancy BMT Ladies, I recently received this email from a patient's daughter. Her Mom was recently diagnosed with cancer and our hats brought some comfort during the first week of chemo. This is the 3-4 time I've read this note and I still well up. Linda - you got a great bunch supporting you - I wish you a speedy return to good health.
Sara, What a wonderful thing you are doing. And I am saddened by your loss, what a handsome man your dad was. This is my first visit to your site. We just finished our first week of chemo for my Mom Linda. My siblings and I and my dad are all very overwhelmed right now. My mom sat in the chair for three days, and we noticed a lovely basket of hats. Today I asked her if she wanted me to ask about them, how much they cost, and if she could try some on. When I came back and told her they were made by volunteers and they were free, she said "really?" We left with a couple but she really wanted to make a donation to the site. My dad tried one on for her, not his color though, hahah. Thank you so much! I too am in awe of the oncology staff. You made my moms day. thanks again M ONE HUNDRED HATS went off to the Bone Marrow Transplant Center at BID Boston on November 26, the day before Thanksgiving. Think of the hundred heads that you are comforting and keeping warm, I know I am thankful for each and every loving stitch you make. Thank you and keep them coming!
Today we shipped 60 hats to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to the Breast Reconstruction Unit. Those ladies will be even more beautiful this holiday season with the "stylin" and fun hats made by such a loving group of crafters. I am thankful for each and every one of my knitters and crocheters. They give time, money but most importantly they give of themselves with every hat they stitch. THANK YOU!
Laurie is the best! She is an expert prolific crocheter, and yet she keeps an eye out for us knitters! Ladies she found us a pattern - This one is a beauty! I have 3 hats going right now - so I put a challenge out there - make one and send me a picture!!
Thanks Laurie! http://ginahouse.net/Gina_House/Pattern_Downloads_files/AmandaHat.pdf The trees are starting to change around Boston, and winter will be here before we know it. To get prepared ~110 hats went to an Oncology Center in Nashua (http://www.foundationhematologyoncology.org/)today, delivered by the strong and courageous Carol! Thanks Carol! We wish all the patients well and Happy Fall!On January 31st, the world lost a great man. He never had monetary wealth but was a truly rich man in so many ways. He taught us so many things not by his words but by his actions. His life was not without tragedy losing his wife, son and grandson all taken well before their time. Yet he was grateful for each small joy and blessing. It is with a heavy heart that I let you go Dad, but your love and example will be with me all of my days.
